Tesla is fully unleashing its Full Self-Driving system.

The feature will be enabled this week for a month-long trial on all vehicles in the U.S. that are compatible with it, Elon Musk confirmed on X.

Since 2019, Teslas have been equipped with the hardware required to run the latest version of Full Self-Driving, but earlier cars can have their computers upgraded.

That means more than a million vehicles are eligible for the trial.

Full Self-Driving is an advanced semi-autonomous system, but it is not fully autonomous and technically requires the driver to remain attentive with their hands on the wheel.

Automotive News reports that Musk has also instructed staff to demo Full Self-Driving for all customers who pick up new purchases.

TESLA IS NOT A LUXURY BRAND ANYMORE

The feature is a $12,000 option, but Tesla also offers it as a subscription for $199.

Musk said in memo that he expects this will slow down deliveries, but that it is a “hard requirement” and “very important.”

The system and the less-capable Autopilot have been the targets of several federal safety probes subject to several updates to their operation.
