The IROC racing Series will have its coming out party this July, but isn’t quite ready to race.

The classic all-star racing series was recently acquired by NASCAR hall of fame crew chief Ray Evernham, who previously launched the similar SRX Racing series, in partnership with investor Rob Kauffman.

IROC, which is short for International Race Of Champions, originally ran from 1974 through 2006 and pitted drivers from various series against each other in identically prepared cars, including the iconic Camaros that begat the IROC-Z production cars.

IROC has now announced that it is holding a festival at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut the weekend of July 19-20 that will feature a gathering of its historic cars and some of its former drivers.

There won’t be an official race, but demonstration runs will be held. The plan is to drum up excitement as plans are worked out to reboot it in a modern version.

“We are thrilled to announce the first IROC event since 2006 will take place at historic Lime Rock Park,” said Evernham. “I began my professional racing career at IROC, so to be part of the team bringing the brand back to life and to the fans is extremely gratifying.”
