Kyle Larson finished the first day of Indy 500 qualifying where he left off on Fast Friday.
The Arrow McLaren driver put in the sixth-fastest time, locking himself in the field for his first attempt at The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
Larson’s four-lap speed was 232.563 mph.
2018 Indy 500 winner Will Power put his Team Penske Chevrolet on the top of the charts with a 233.758 mph speed and was followed by teammates Scott McLaughlin at 233.332 mph and defending race winner Josef Newgarden at 233.293.
Alexander Rossi and Kyle Kirkwood filled out the top five.
“It was a good, smooth run,†Power told IndyCar.com.
“We got an early draw, which helps. We would have liked to have run in the heat, but [team owner] Roger [Penske] didn’t want us to go out. I think Rossi is the one who could break up the all-Penske front row, but I think one of us will get the pole. We put a lot of work in. All the cars are about the same speed.â€
The top 12 finishers will now head to two rounds of qualifying on Sunday to see who claims pole position for the race.
Veteran Graham Rahal won’t be one of them as he finds himself in the same position as last year in the bottom four and will have to beat at least Marcus Ericsson, Katherine Legge, or Nolan Siegel in Last Chance Qualifying on Sunday to make the 33-car field.
