Romain Dumas Drives Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck To Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Win

He’s king of the hill again.

Romain Dumas won his fifth Pikes Peak International Hill Climb behind the wheel of the 1,600 hp Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck.

The all-electric vehicle was entered in the Open class, where Dumas set a class record last year in the Ford SuperVan 4.2 that uses a similar tri-motor electric drivetrain.

Dumas drove the SuperTruck to a time of 8:53.553, which was less than six seconds short of his 8:47.682 SuperVan time.

He may have beaten in, but a technical issue mid-run required him to stop for 26 seconds on the course to reset the vehicle.

“The progression of Ford EV’s taking on and completing the toughest challenges is a major testament to the hard work and dedication our teams have put into the program” Mark Rushbrook, Global Director, Ford Performance Motorsports, said in a release.

“We learned a great deal from SuperVan 4.2 in last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill climb and were able to apply that knowledge to this year’s run — it’s onwards and upwards from here.”

Dumas also owns the overall record of 7:57.148 that he set in the Volkswagen ID.R prototype car that ran in the Unlimited class in 2018.

The SuperTruck is a purpose-built electric demonstration vehicle with bodywork designed to generate up to 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.

Dumas’ previous overall wins came in 2014, 2016 2017 and 2018.
