John Force Moved To Neuro Intensive Care Unit With Serious Head Injury After 302 MPH Crash
John Force Racing has confirmed that John Force suffered a serious head injury in his fiery crash at the NHRA Virginia Nationals on Sunday.
Force was competing in the first elimination round when the engine in his funny car blew at more than 300 mph and sent it smashing into both walls.
Force was conscious when he was stretchered away from the wreck and brought to a nearby medical center.
On Thursday the team said that he has been moved from the trauma ICU into a neuro ICU “where the medical team can focus on the head injury which is their primary concern,” but did not detail the extent of his injuries.
Force’s daughter Brittany Force, who also drives for the team, will sit out this weekend’s Top Fuel event at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.
The 75-year-old Force won two races this year and has 157 victories in his career and is currently second in the Funny Car points standings for the 2024 season.
The team did not offer any estimate on how long Force’s recovery could take, but said that he has a “long road ahead.”
