Subaru May Add Kentucky-Built 3-Row Electric SUV
Subaru could be getting some of its horsepower from horse country in the near future.
The automaker is set to add a three-row electric SUV to its lineup that will be built in Kentucky through a joint venture with Toyota, Automotive News reports.
Subaru currently sells the two-row Solterra compact electric SUV, which is a version of the Toyota bZ4X that’s imported to the U.S. from Japan.
Toyota in May announced plans to build its own 3-row EV at its existing Kentucky plant, which is being updated to manufacture electric vehicles that will use batteries sourced from a new factory being constructed in North Carolina.
Details on the model have not been announced, but it is expected to be based on the bZ5X concept that was revealed in 2021.
Neither automaker has commented on the report, which said the Subaru version would be launched after the Toyota in 2025.

The USA-sourced battery pack and local production could qualify both for the full $7,500 federal tax credit for EV purchases if source material requirements are met. The credit can currently only be applied to the Japan-made bZ4X and Solterra when put toward a lease.
Prices for the bZ4X and Solterra start in the mid-$40K range, which suggests the three row could come to market for around $55,000.
