The GMC Hummer EV pickup may have been inspired by GM’s work on the Apollo-era Lunar Roving Vehicle, but there will soon be one designed for roving our own planet.

Earlier this year GMC and adventure vehicle builder EarthCruiser announced they were collaborating on an overland-style version of the Hummer EV that will be unveiled before the end of August and have now released the best look at it yet.

The rendering of the electric pickup depicts a bronze-colored beast equipped with what appears to be a slide-in camper that is perfectly integrated with the truck’s bed and roof. Along with auxiliary off-road lights, the unit features a screened-in pop-up sleeping section.

A previous image showed that the camper’s roof has solar panels built into it, but details on their capability and exactly what is inside of the camper have not been announced, nor has an exact date for the vehicle’s official debut.

The GMC Hummer EV is available with a 1,000 hp tri-motor all-wheel-drivetrain, four-wheel steering and a hydraulic suspension system that provides 13 inches of wheel travel and up to 16 inches of ground clearance when set to an “Extract Mode” that can be used at very low speeds to clear obstacles.

The roughly 9,000-pound pickup’s range is rated at 329 miles between charges, which makes it suitable for some long-distance driving, at least where there’s a charging station available at the end of the trip.

That is, of course, unless the upfit allows the vehicle’s battery charge from the sun, which would be … out of this world.
