Carbon-Fiber Shelby Cobra Is A $1.2 Million Classic Reboot
Dallas vintage replicar specialist Classic Recreations is celebrating 60th anniversary of the Shelby Cobra with a very special take on the legendary roadster.
The Diamond Edition Shelby Cobra Race Car first announced last year features a full carbon fiber body that weighs just 88 pounds.
It’s a couple of inches larger than the original, but otherwise true to the style.
Designed as a track car, and not street legal, it’s built on chassis that uses CNC-machined components and rides on a cantilevered suspension with adjustable inboard coilover shocks.
It’s powered by a Ford 5.0-liter V8 crate engine equipped with a Magnussen supercharger that’s rated at approximately 900 hp, which is sent to the 13-inch-wide rear tires through a six-speed Tremec manual transmission.
Weighing in at around 2,300 pounds, Classic Recreations says it can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and break 190 mph.
A full set of oil, transmission and differential coolers are installed to keep temperatures in check during long lapping days, while a set of Shelby-branded Baer brakes with 6-inch front, 4-inch rear calipers slows things down.
Just 10 cars will be built and each will get a unique dash plaque embedded with 10 diamonds, which seems appropriate given the price.

The Diamond Edition lists for $1.2 million. The first production car will make its public debut on August 18 at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, during the Monterey Car Week festival, where the $3 million Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster hypercar will also be displayed.
