The Cheapest Car Still Made In The USA May Surprise You
American car shoppers may be losing another budget option soon.
Automotive News reports that the Mitsubishi Mirage will be discontinued in 2025, although the company has not officially confirmed the move.
The subcompact hatchback and sedan is one of just three cars with starting prices less than $20,000, along with the Kia Rio and Nissan Versa.
The fates of the Rio and Versa for 2024 and beyond have not officially been announced, but the number of vehicles available under even $25,000 has dwindled to a handful in recent years.
Some are imports from foreign brands, while the made in South Korea Chevrolet Trax is the lowest priced vehicle offered by an American automaker at $21,495, including shipping.

But what is the least expensive car that’s assembled in the USA?
That would be the Toyota Corolla LE Sedan that hails from Mississippi for $22,795. It is powered by a 169 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 35 mpg combined and comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense package of electronic driver aids, which includes a lane-centering adaptive cruise control.
As for American-made cars from American brands, the Kansas-built Chevrolet Malibu LS is soldiering into the eighth year of its current generation for $26,195, making it the lowest-priced option. The front-wheel-drive midsize sedan features a 163 hp 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and CVT combo with a 30 mpg EPA combined rating. If you want to test drive one, head over to your nearest rental car agency. Just kidding! (Well, your chances of getting one are pretty good.)

The Michigan-made all-electric Chevrolet Bolt is the next model to wave the flag at $27,495, but it is going out of production at the end of 2023 and details on its replacement are as of yet unknown.
