Well that was … quick.

Croatian supercar company Rimac has set a new fastest lap time for production electric cars at Germany’s Nurburgring Nordschleife, destroying a mark that was set by Tesla in June.

The new limited-edition Nevera Time Attack coupe completed the 12.8-mile circuit in 7:05:298.

That’s 20 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid with Track Package’s time of 7:25.231.

The Nevera did have a slight advantage as it came to play with a 1,914 hp all-wheel-drivetrain, while the Model S Plaid is rated at 1,020 hp.

The Nevera was shod in Michelin Cup 2 R street legal track tires and the Tesla’s Track Package includes similar Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3R rubber.

Rimac has been racking up records with the Nevera. It claimed 23 in one day in May including an 8.25-second quarter mile sprint. In 2022 it was certified as the fastest electric car ever at a top speed of 258 mph.

Of course, Nevera prices start around $2.2 million and the Model S Plaid Track Package lists for $128,490.

Tesla still holds the record for four-door electric cars at the Nurburgring and one could argue all four-doors. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 set a time of 7:23 seconds in 2019, but the vehicle used was technically a “production intent” car.

For what it’s worth, the Jag also didn’t have rear seats, making the Tesla the fastest family car at the ‘Ring.

Rimac will sell just 12 of the Nevera Time Attack models, which feature a special black and lightning green paint scheme, with the latter color inspired by a weather phenomenon caused by ionized particles in the atmosphere.
