New 2024 Ford F-150 To Debut In Detroit This September

The Ford F-150 is getting a quick refresh.

Ford will unveil what it’s billing as the “new” 2024 F-150 alongside the North American International Auto Show in September, just three years after the current model debuted.

Photos and video of the pickup undergoing hot weather testing in Arizona suggest it will be getting a nip and tuck at the front and rear ends that’s typical of a midcycle update, rather than a full redesign.

What’s happening under the skin is less clear.

Ford added the PowerBoost hybrid and all-electric Lightning models in recent years, along with the Pro Power Onboard generator and Blue Cruise hands-free highway driving features, but hasn’t hinted at what big news might be in store this time around.

That said, Ford CEO Jim Farley said durning the company’s second-quarter earnings call that the PowerBoost models were more popular than Ford expected, accounting for about 10 percent of orders.

That suggests that an expansion of that powertrain’s availability, or even the addition of a smaller, more efficient one, wouldn’t be out of the question.

While the F-150 PowerBoost uses a 3.5-liter V6-based powertrain rated at 430 hp, Ford also has a 3.3-liter V6-based hybrid it uses in the Explorer that’s rated at 318 hp.

There’s also the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring’s 3.0-liter V6-based plug-in hybrid system, that has 494 hp and an all-electric driving range of 21 miles. There are currently no plug-in hybrid full-size pickups offered by an original equipment manufacturer.

The exact date and time for the 2024 F-150’s reveal have not been announced.
