The T. rex is going extinct … again.

Ram has announced that the high performance 1500 TRX pickup will be discontinued at the end of 2023.

Powered by a 702 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8, the Ram 1500 TRX is the most powerful naturally aspirated pickup ever sold.

The news of its demise was abrupt, but not entirely shocking, as production of the the Dodge “Hellcat” models that share the TRX’s engine are also being discontinued this year.

“The introduction of the Ram 1500 TRX ushered in a significant shift in off-road performance trucks with a halo effect that will last for years to come, Tim Kuniskis, Dodge and Ram brand CEO, said.

“This current chapter in Ram’s high-performance trucks is coming to a close, but it’s not the end of TRX’s story. While we’ll have more news to come at a later date, we’re proud to offer our loyal performance enthusiasts the very special TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition.”

Ram will build 4,000 Final Edition trucks for global sale. Each will get a numbered plaque on the armrest, unique Satin Titanium beadlock-capable wheels, plus a hood badge and bed decal in the same color.

The interior features “Patina” stitching, embroidered TRX logos on the seat backs, suede door panels, a Satin Titanium TRX dash badge and matte carbon fiber trim.

They also come loaded with a list of features that includes a 19-speaker audio system, head up display and adaptive cruise control.

Pricing starts at $119,620 and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year. Standard 1500 TRX models will continue to be available through the end of production starting at $86,845.

Kuniskis recently confirmed that an updated Ram 1500 will be revealed early next year and rumor has it that it could get a version of the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that’s currently offered in the Jeep Wagoneer with up to 510 hp, but is apparently capable of producing 1,000 horsepower.

Ram poked fun at its rival, the Ford F-150 Raptor, with a graphic that shows a T. rex with a raptor in its mouth hidden under its engine cover.

The latest F-150 Raptor R comes up just short of the Ram 1500 TRX with a 700 hp supercharged V8 that will inherit the most powerful gas pickup title, but not of all time.
