The Bullitt is still the best.

Hagerty has compiled its second annual Power List of vintage vehicles with celebrity connections.

The survey looks at sales of cars and trucks that were either owned by someone famous or were on screen themselves, then calculates the premium that was paid for them compared to the value of similar, but common examples cars at the time of the sales.

The 1968 Ford Mustang GT that appeared in the Steve McQueen thriller “Bullitt” was auctioned in 2020 after spending years in hiding for $3.74 million, which was 15,952% more than run of the mill versions of the model were going for at the time.

That kept the American classic at the top of the list for a second year running with a commanding lead ahead of the second-place car, which is the Porsche 928 from the film “Risky Business” that went for $1.98 million in 2021, representing a 4759% premium for its provenance.

Along with the overall list, Hagerty has broken its report into categories covering cars owned by musicians, sports stars, screen stars, racing drivers, royalty and art cars.

The Mustang wasn’t the only Ford to top a list. A 1976 Bronco once owned by Canadian Formula One driver Gilles Villeneuve was sold last December for a relatively modest €136,150 that was 210% over market.

That knocked one of Carroll Shelby’s own Shelby Cobras down to second place, despite it having been sold for $5.94 million, which was 192% more than its estimated worth.
