Scott Dixon finished the 2023 IndyCar season second in the points standings, but first on the podium.

The Chip Ganassi Racing driver picked up his 56th career win at the series finale at Laguna Seca more than seven seconds clear of fellow New Zealander Scott McLaughlin in second place.

It was Dixon’s first win on the historic track and wasn’t an easy one. He had to come back from a penalty issued early in the race for avoidable contact.

“A credit to this team,” Dixon said. “They’ve been executing like that all year. We got caught up in some mayhem at the start. I definitely didn’t agree with the (penalty) call, but I haven’t seen all of it yet. But I had nowhere to go. But we won; that’s all that matters. We won.”

Dixon’s teammate, Alex Palou, who clinched the IndyCar championship at Portland last weekend, finished third ahead of defending champ Will Power.
