T. rex is going extinct.

The 702 hp Ram 1500 TRX is set to end production this year, leaving its title of most powerful production gasoline-fueled pickup ever sold in jeopardy.

And it looks like another predator is ready to pounce.

The 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show features updated styling and a new suspension system, but carries over the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 from the current truck … just not exactly.

The specification sheet for the 2024 Raptor R lists its horsepower as (–) and Ford has confirmed that it will be higher than 700 hp when it is announced later this year. But by how much?

All we know is that a version of the engine, which is codenamed the Predator, put out 760 hp in the last Mustang GT500, so they can probably get it to over 702 hp in their sleep.

The Raptor R is currently rated at 700 hp, which seemed odd when it debuted for 2023. It was so close from snagging the title from the TRX. It’s hard to imagine the engineers couldn’t squeeze at least three more ponies out of the motor to get those bragging rights. Apparently, they have.

However, it’s unlikely they’ll get anywhere near the all-time most powerful pickup rating, which is the 1,000 hp that’s delivered by the tri-motor electric drivetrain in the GMC Hummer EV.
