Chinese Ford Bronco Is No Knockoff
The Ford Bronco is going to China.
Well, some outfits already sell it in the country, but now Ford is going to start building it there.
Not for exports to the U.S., but for the local market, where the starting price for the imported Broncos is around $100,000.
Ford confirmed the production plan with American Cars And Racing, but hasn’t released all of the info on the project just yet.

However, the folks over at Car News China have uncovered an application with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology that includes images of the truck and some technical details.
The photos show four-door Broncos in the mid-level Outer Banks trim, which don’t look that much different from the Michigan-made trucks.
The biggest visual change is to the grille, which incorporates a provision for a license plate and a the word FORD added over the vehicle’s signature BRONCO lettering.
The document also reveals that it will come powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine rated at 270 hp, while the same size motor produces 300 hp in the U.S. market Bronco.

According to the report, the vehicle will be produced by a joint venture between Ford and Jangling Motor that also builds several other Ford SUV models, but none that are offered in the U.S.
The exact date for the Chinese-made Bronco’s launch is unknown, but it is expected to be sometime early next year.
