It’s hard to find a car that’s more American than this.

And hard to find one like it, period.

A very rare 1970 AMC Javelin SST Trans Am Edition will be crossing the block at the Mecum Auctions event in Dallas on Friday, September 20.

The high performance special was built to homologate the Javelin for use in the Trans Am racing series and just 100 were made.

The SST Trans Am Edition was cranked up with a Ram Air hood, a 325 hp 390 cubic-inch 8, a four-speed Borg-Warner transmission with a Hurst shifter, a limited-slip rear differential, power brakes with discs up front and an upgraded suspension for improved handling.

It also got an adjustable trunk-mounted spoiler, a front splitter and an iconic red, white and blue paint job that looked just like the racing car.

The model sold for $4,000, which was nearly double what a base Javelin cost.
