Jeep buyers are dropping the top and plugging-in.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe were the best-selling plug-in hybrids in the U.S. in the third quarter, according to the automaker.

The Wrangler 4xe accounted for a whopping 42% of Wrangler sales, with 17,662 delivered, while the Grand Cherokee racked up 9,722 deliveries.

Jeep recently initiated a policy where the only Wrangler model allowed in dealer stock in the 14 states that follow California’s emissions rules is the 4xe, while internal combustion engine models need to be special ordered.
