Tesla Cybertruck Auctioned For $400,000, Reports Say
A Tesla Cybertruck virtually crossed the auction block on Saturday night at the Petersen Automotive Museum charity gala in Los Angeles, and the winning bid offers some idea of how hot the electric pickup is ahead of the first deliveries.
Reports from the event say the early build slot for the truck, which was purchased by the museum for the auction, sold for $400,000, according to Teslarati.
A Petersen spokesperson told American Cars And Racing that the museum would not confirm specific winning bids, but that the event raised a total of $2.5 million for the museum and the charities it supports.
If accurate, the amount paid was less than the $500,000 winning bid for the first GMC Hummer EV SUV that was auctioned earlier this year and a lot less than the one placed on the first Hummer EV Pickup in 2021, which was $2.5 million.

Of course, the actual price for the Cybertruck is still unknown. After initially listing it with starting prices ranging from $39,900 to $69,900 when it was revealed in 2019, Tesla removed those amounts from the website and has yet to update them.
The first Cybertruck deliveries are expected to happen before the end of this year, however, so that information could be coming soon.

Several Cybertruck “release candidates” that are nearly ready for production have been spotted being tested on public roads in recent weeks, and two just completed a 1,280-mile journey from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas across the Baja peninsula, spending much of the time off-pavement.
