American-Made Nissan Leaf Now Qualifies For $3,750 Federal Tax Credit

The 2024 Nissan Leaf just got a big discount … for now.

Nissan has made some changes and certified that its battery components meet the rules required to qualify for part of the federal electric car tax credit.

The regulations split the $7,500 credit in half between the battery component material and the critical minerals — including rare earth elements — used for the cells.

Both must be produced within North America to qualify.

The Leaf’s eligibility will run at least through the end of 2023, when the next stage of the program increases the percentages required for both categories.

The Tennessee-built Leaf is set to be the lowest-priced electric vehicle when production of the Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV comes to an end this year.
