NASCAR Truck Series Driver Zane Smith Disqualified From Second-Place Homestead-Miami Finish
NASCAR Truck Series Playoffs driver Zane Smith came up one spot short of the win he needed at the Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami to qualify for the final in Phoenix, but it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
Smith’s second-place result was disqualified after his truck failed a post-race inspection.
NASCAR said it was found to be in violation of rule number 14.4.7.I covering the windshield s.upport.
Further details weren’t released, but Smith’s No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford will be brought to the NASCAR R&D center for additional evaluation.
Smith was credited with a last-place finish in 34th position.
“We are disappointed in the disqualification from today’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event,” Front Row Motorsports said in a statement on the penalty.
“We will continue to work and discuss with NASCAR officials back at the NACAR R&D Center in Concord, N.C. before making any further comment.â€
2024 NASCAR CUP SERIES SCHEDULE RELEASED WITH BIG CHANGES
It’s possible Smith’s DQ can be rescinded upon review, as was the case with Ryan Blaney’s car from last week’s Cup Series race at Las Vegas. Blaney’s car was penalized after the race for a suspension infraction, but NASCAR later determined that the testing equipment was out of specification and restored Blaney’s sixth-place finish.
Carson Hocevar, who will be Smith’s NASCAR Cup Series teammate at Spire Motorsports next season, won the race to secure his spot in the Truck Series final on Nov. 3, along with Corey Heim, Grant Enfinger and Ben Rhodes.
