Toyota EPU Electric Pickup Name Trademarked For USA
It’s coming. Apparently.
Toyota has filed for a U.S. Trademark on the model name EPU, which is an Electric PickUp (get it?) that’s making its debut at the Japan Mobility Show this week.
The compact pickup was revealed last week along with an electric Land Cruiser Se SUV and several other concepts.
The filing covering “automobiles and structural parts thereof” isn’t a guarantee that the truck will be offered in the U.S., or even put into production, but it signals the automaker’s intent to feature it here in some fashion.
If Toyota were to sell it in the U.S., it would either have to be built in the country or at one of its Canadian or Mexican facilities to avoid the Chicken Tax levied on imported pickups.
A likely location for production is currently Toyota’s Georgetown, Ky., factory, which will begin production of an electric three-row SUV next year.
