Toyota has announced new TRD Performance Packages for the Tundra at the SEMA Show that give it’s new turbocharged i-Force engines a boost.

The factory-installed option increases airflow to the turbos through freer-flowing dual intakes and a cat-back exhaust to reduce back pressure.

An engine management calibration sets it up to run on 91-octane fuel, and the package includes a badge for the inside of the fuel filler door to remind owners to use the good stuff.

It also comes with octagonal exhaust tips and a TRD Performance tailgate badge.

Toyota says the upgrades increase the standard i-Force V6’s power from 389 hp to 421 hp and lowers the RPM of its 479 lb-ft torque peak by 400 rpm to 2,000 rpm. Installed on the hybridized i-Force MAX powertrain, the boost is from 437 hp to 469 hp.

“We wanted to build on the excitement of the new Tundra platform and the twin-turbo engine — which already makes monster horsepower and torque — to develop this performance package,” Jakin Wilson, Toyota Motor North America senior engineering manager, said.

The TRD Performance Package will be covered under the San Antonio-built Tundra’s factory warranty and priced at $3,400 when it becomes available early next year.

Toyota said it is planning a dealer-installed version for Tundra owners looking to upgrade and may expand it to other models in the future, the Sequioa SUV coming standard with the i-Force MAX powertrain.

Toyota also unveiled a very different truck at the SEMA Show, but it won’t be going on sale.
