William Byron Wins Pole Position For NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race
William Byron will lead the field to the green flag in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday after securing pole position during qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
The result also gets Byron the coveted first pit stall, giving him a clear shot onto the track after stops.
The stall location was instrumental to Kyle Larson’s 2021 championship when, after pitting from fourth during the last yellow flag period, a near-perfect four-tire stop allowed him to win the race off pit road and jump into first position for the restart, which he held onto for the final 24 laps.
