General Motors President Says Cadillac Is Only Interested In Formula One With Andretti
General Motors isn’t looking for another dance partner … in F1.
GM’s Cadillac brand announced this year that it is collaborating with Andretti Global on a bid to become the 11th team on the Formula One circuit, and they remain the only group still under consideration for a potential spot on an expanded grid.
There’s been a lot of resistance to the prospect, however, with some current teams concerned about their value and revenue being diluted, despite an estimated $200 million buy-in for new teams.
Some have suggested that Cadillac could join with an existing tam if it wants to go up against Ford in 2026, when it starts developing power units with Red Bull Racing, but GM President Mark Reuss said that’s not going to happen.

“GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1,†GM President Mark Reuss told the Associated Press.
“The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.â€
Andretti currently competes in seven racing series around the world, while Cadillac enters its prototype cars in both IMSA and WEC.
Andretti has started moving forward with development with an eye on entering the series in 2025 if approved, and has even designed and tested a 2023 spec car in a wind tunnel.
Nevertheless, he remains frustrated by the resistance from the Formula One community.
“I don’t know, that’s a mystery to me in some ways why they’re pushing back,†Michael said when asked about the opposition from other teams,” he said, according to The Race.
“They say we’re slicing the pie but I think the point is hopefully we bring in more than what we’re taking away and we really believe that.”
Andretti said he intends to bring his American IndyCar driver, Colton Herta, onto the Formula One team.
Formula One has three U.S. races on its schedule – Miami, Austin and Las Vegas – but just one American driver, Logan Sargent.
The Haas F1 Team is owned by American businessman Gene Haas, but uses Ferrari engines and has two European drivers.
