Icon’s $1.1 Million Custom 1970 Chevrolet Suburban Is A Stealthy Classic Muscle Truck
If you think Icon’s new 1970 Chevrolet Suburban looks like a million bucks, you’re close. The stealthy stunner was built for a client at the cost of $1.1 million.
The California custom vehicle company create it as part of its Reformer series of restomods.
Icon took the body of an original three-door Suburban, added a fourth door, and installed it on an Art Morrison chassis with a powder-coated frame and fully-independent suspension.
It then ordered up a 1,000 hp turbocharged 427-cubic-inch V8 from Nelson Racing Engines that sends 900 lb-ft of torque through a GM 4L85-E four-speed to a Dana 90 axle at the rear.

The team drew inspiration for the metallic styling from industrial designer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and equipped it with a single piece billet aluminum grille and hardware. It looks special without suggesting what’s really underneath the skin.
The interior retains the original design, but is recreated with new materials, incorporates throwback gauges and conceals modern electronics and climate control.
“Interestingly enough, this new 1970 Reformer custom is our first Icon Suburban to date. In the history of Icon, this Suburban has been one of my favorite truck builds for a variety of reasons,” Icon founder and CEO Jonathan Ward said.
“The Suburban allows our designers such a great canvas with tons of room to get creative with how we integrate our Icon engineering and parts. The sky is really the limit with our vintage Suburban template.”
The truck will be publicly displayed at the “ICONS of DESIGN†showcase to benefit the GO Campaign charity on November 19th at the Hagerty Garage + Social in Van Nuys, Calif., before being delivered to its owner.

Icon won’t make one exactly like it again, but can do something similar for anyone interested in driving a million-dollar muscle truck that doesn’t look like one.
