Lucid thinks it’s ready for the big time … literally.

The new American electric car company has revealed its first SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Gravity is a three-row, seven-passenger model set to compete with the likes of the Tesla Model X and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV in the electric luxury SUV space.

It bears a strong family resemblance to the sleek Lucid Air sedan, but on a supersize scale.

Since its launch in 2021, Lucid’s calling cards have been efficiency and range and the Gravity follows suit. The company said it will be able to go up to 440 miles between charges using a battery pack that’s “a little more than half the size of some of our battery-hungry competitors.”

It didn’t specify what competitors it was talking about or exactly how large the battery is, but a company spokesperson told American Cars And Racing to use the Air as a guide, which is available with packs that have up to 118 kWh of capacity.

The exact power of the Gravity’s all-wheel-drive system was also not announced, but it’s strong enough to accelerate the vehicle to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and tow up to 6,000 pounds. Lucid demonstrated the later in a video of it hauling a Boom supersonic jet prototype around an airfield.

The Gravity is equipped with an air suspension system and was shown driving on rocky terrain, although it is primarily a street machine.

Its interior uses the same 34-inch OLED display as the Air for the gauge cluster and infotainment system, while a separate touchscreen tablet it is the primary control interface, but there are a few physical buttons and a scroll wheel for volume control below it.

The second and third rows of seating fold flat to the floor to open up 112 cubic feet of space that can take full advantage of the Gravity’s 1,500-pound payload capacity.

The second row seats can also slide fore and aft to adjust the legroom and have airplane style tables in front of them.

And if you need more places to sit when the Gravity is parked, its “frunk” will double as a bench when open.

The Gravity will be built at Lucid’s factory in Arizona and start under $80,000 when it goes on sale late next year, which gets it under the threshold to qualify for federal electric car tax credits.
