The winds of change have hit the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

The full-size SUVs are losing their V8 engine options for the 2024 model year and will only be offered with “Hurricane” turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engines.

The Wagoneer and stretched Wagoneer L will get a 420 hp version with 468 lb-ft of torque while the more luxury-oriented Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L will feature a 510 hp version with 500 lb-ft of torque.

Both are more efficient and more powerful than the 5.7-liter V8 that was previously offered, which was rated at 392 hp and 408 lb-ft.

The move isn’t entirely surprising as the Ram 1500 pickup, which shares many elements with the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, is also discontinuing its V8 engines next year.

Jeep will continue to offer a 5.7-liter V8 in the three-row Grand Cherokee L and a 470 hp 6.4-liter V8 in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 for the 2024 model year, but previously removed the option from the two-row Grand Cherokee in 2022.

Chrysler is also losing its last V8 model with production of the 300 sedan coming to an end, while Dodge is replacing its Challenger and Charger V8-powered muscle cars with an all-electric vehicle based on the Charger Daytona SRT Concept.

Dodge has yet to confirm anything beyond the electric car, but its chassis was designed to also accommodate an internal combustion engine, leaving the door open to an inline-six-cylinder model being added to the lineup.
