Jeep is recalling approximately 32,125 plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe SUVs to fix a software problem that could lead to the vehicle catching fire.

The action covers certain 2021-2024 Wrangler 4xes.

Jeep says the issue was discovered through an internal investigation that uncovered eight fires.

All of the vehicles were parked and turned off and six of them were connected to chargers when they caught fire.

“The vehicles may be driven. However, the Company is advising owners to refrain from recharging these hybrid vehicles, and to park them away from structures and other vehicles, until they are remedied,” Jeep said in a press release.

The vehicles will be checked and have their software updated if necessary. Jeep estimates that fewer than 1% of the vehicles exhibit the problem. Exact details of the cause have not been released.
