Tesla’s $25,000 Car Will Be Built In Texas Before Mexico
Now that the Cybertruck has been launched, Tesla’s next big project is a small car.
The automaker has confirmed plans to add an entry-level model with a target price of $25,000, which would be more than $10,000 less than the lowest-priced Model 3 that’s available today.
The car will eventually be manufactured in a new factory Tesla has announced for Monterrey, Mexico, but not initially.
Elon Musk said that the first ones will be built alongside the Cybertruck at its Austin, Texas, facility.
DOES THE CYBERTRUCK HAVE AUTOPILOT AND FULL SELF-DRIVING?
Musk revealed this detail during an interview on the Munro Live YouTube channel. Musk claims that the production line being designed for it will be the most advanced ever and that waiting for the Mexico plant to be completed would delay the project too long.
“The revolution in manufacturing that will be represented by that car will blow people’s minds,” Musk said.
“It is not like any car production line that anyone has ever seen.”
I FIXED THE CYBERTRUCK’S DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW
Musk has previously talked about building vehicle bodies in a single cast piece to control costs, similar to how toy cars are made.
The Cybertruck and Texas-built Model Y already feature large “gigagast” parts that replace dozens of parts that would be required through traditional manufacturing methods.
Aside from the price target, details and an exact launch date for the $25,000 car are unknown, although several sketches of a small vehicle that appear in a Tesla video released this year have led many to speculate they could offer a sneak peek at the model.
