Some Ford F-150 Lightnings Will Look More Like Tesla Cybertrucks Next Year
The Tesla Cybertruck’s design may be divisive, but there is function to the form.

The Ford F-150 Lighting, the Cybertruck’s closest rival in the full-size electric pickup class, isn’t nearly as sleek, but there will soon be a way to close the gap … and cap the bed.
Michigan Vehicle Solutions has been selling a bed cover called the Aero X for the past few years that gives the F-150 a fastback look inspired by the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

The $7,500, wind tunnel-tested product features a liftback and can be equipped with louvers over the rear window. A lip spoiler is also available to enhance the muscle car effect.
Owner Rich Oliver told American Cars And Racing that the company has sold hundreds of them and that it is looking for a manufacturing partner because it can’t build enough to keep up with demand.
It’s currently only compatible with the 2015-2020 F-150, in 5.5-foot and 6.5-foot versions, but Oliver is putting the finishing touches on an updated version that will fit on the F-150 Lightning and the other 2021 and later models.

He shared an exclusive first look at a prototype of it installed on an F-150 Lightning with us. It looks the same, but he said the changes to the truck during its 2021 update were significant enough that the original version didn’t fit.

Oliver doesn’t yet have an exact date when it will be ready, but hopes to have it on sale in the first half of next year.
