It’ll be Ford v Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Daytona next year, but also Ford v Chevy.
The new Ford Mustang GT3 will be taking on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the GTD classes at the iconic twice around the clock race.
Teams went to Daytona this week for pre-season testing, which offered up a sneak peek of what to expect in January.
IMSA, the race’s sanctioning body, posted side-by-side video of the Corvette and Mustang blasting around the high banks of Daytona International Speedway.
The mid-engine Corvette and front-engine Mustang don’t just look completely different, they sound nothing alike.
The Corvette uses a 5.5-liter V8 similar to the one found in the production Corvette Z06, while the Mustang uses a 5.0-liter Coyote V8-based engine that’s been punched out to 5.4-liters.
Both are restricted by regulations to around 500 hp to keep things fair and further adjustments to the cars can be made through IMSA’s Balance Of Performance rules, which involve adjustments to power and weight as necessary.

The cars will be back at the track for the Roar Before The Rolex 24 from January 19-21 with the Rolex 24 at Daytona set for the following weekend.

It’s not the only time they will be going head-to-head for 24 hours, either. Both will be entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
