The Raptor has finally conquered T. rex.
Ford has announced the official power rating for the 2024 F-150 Raptor R and it has claimed a title that may never be broken.
The supercharged 5.2-liter V8-powered pickup’s output has been increased from 700 hp to 720 hp through “reduced air inlet losses” and a new engine calibration.
Torque remains the same as the current truck’s at 640 lb-ft, but the overall torque curve is wider.
THE CHEAPEST AMERICAN V8-POWERED CARS AND TRUCKS
The new rating makes the F-150 Raptor R the most powerful gasoline-fueled production pickup ever made, besting the Ram 1500 TRX’s 702 hp.
And Ram won’t be challenging it again anytime soon.
Ram has discontinued all of its V8-powered 1500 pickups and put the TRX trim on hiatus. Next year’s top Ram 1500 will be the RHO, which uses a 540 hp turbocharged inline-six-cylinder.

Ram has indicated the TRX name may return one day, and is developing a 1,000 hp crate motor version of the inline-six, but the most-powerful trucks it has in the pipeline are all-electric.
The 1500 REV and plug-in hybrid 1500 Ramcharger have estimated ratings of 654 hp and 663 hp, respectively. Several other electric pickups, including the 845 hp Tesla Cybertruck and 1,000 hp GMC Hummer EV, have far surpassed the V8 trucks.
Even if it comes out with an TRX powered by an inline-six-cylinder with more than 720 hp, the Raptor would retain the all-time V8 title.

Then again, while GM is transitioning to electric powertrains even more aggressively than Ford or Ram, it did recently invest in a new generation of V8 engines for its trucks.
So far, it has sat out the battle of the dinosaurs and lets the high performance Silverado 1500 ZR2 and GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X get by with a 420 hp V8, but the Cadillac Escalade-V’s supercharged V8 engine is already rated at 668 hp and would fit in the engine bay of a Silverado just fine.
