It’s out with the old and in with … well, nothing.

New vehicle models are discontinued every year, but some big names are taking a break for 2024 as several American car and SUV nameplates are being put on the shelf.

CHEVROLET BOLT/BOLT EUV

GM’s first mass produced all-electric model arrived in 2017 as a subcompact hatchback and was joined by the Bolt EUV — Electric Utility Vehicle — for the 2022 model year. The lineup suffered a total recall and stop-sale due to a battery defect that was causing fires, but returned with strong sales … just in time to be discontinued. Chevrolet says the Bolt will be back in 2025, but the way things have been going in the EV space lately, we’ll believe it when we see it in showrooms.

CHEVROLET CAMARO

The sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro is universally considered an excellent sports car, but it never caught on with customers like the popular fifth generation model and fell to a distant third in the American pony car sales race behind the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang. Chevrolet claims this isn’t “the end of Camaro’s story,” but there’s no telling how long will have to wait for the next sequel.

CHRYSLER 300

Chrysler’s retro gangster sedan has been on sale since 2004, but is finally going out of production with the Dodge Challenger and Charger that share its platform. It was, however, given an excellent swan song with a limited run of 2,200 300C trim cars featuring a 6.4-liter 485 hp V8. The reservations book filled up within minutes of its reveal.

DODGE CHALLENGER

The Dodge Challenger is leaving the scene with the mic drop of all mic drops. The two-door coupe that was first launched in 2008 ends its run with a Challenger SRT Demon 170 model powered by a 900 hp supercharged V8 that can be cranked up to 1,025 hp simply by filling the tank with high octane E85 fuel. It is the most powerful internal combustion engine muscle car ever, a title that will unlikely be broken.

DODGE CHARGER

Police departments across the country may want to dim their lights to mark the passing of the Charger, which is the last American pursuit-rated vehicle that’s not an SUV or pickup.

JEEP CHEROKEE

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was split into two with the introduction of the three-row Grand Cherokee L a couple of years ago, but now the compact Cherokee is being retired. Jeep’s parent Stellantis idled the Belvidere, Ill., factory that makes it in March, and plans to restart it in the future to build batteries and electric trucks.
