Mullen Automotive is turning up the juice.

The California-based electric vehicle startup unveiled the 1,000 hp Five RS at CES.

The company is working on a factory in Mississippi that it aims to have up and running next year.

The Five RS is a high performance version of the previously introduced Five, which has a projected starting price of $55,000.

Pricing for the Five RS hasn’t been announced, but its specifications suggest it will be a fair bit more than that. The midsize SUV’s all-wheel-drivetrain will produce at least 1,000 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque and has a two-speed gearbox, which is unusual among EVs. The Porsche Taycan is the only EV performance model on sale now that uses one to improve high speed performance and efficiency.

Mullen says the Five RS will be able to accelerate to 60 mph in less than two seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 200 mph, which would make it the quickest and fastest SUV in the world. One interesting feature is a flow-through section at the front of the hood that’s similar to the R-Wing found on the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept electric muscle car.

It has a 100-kWh battery pack and a projected 300 mile range. An 800-volt architecture allows for fast charging to 80% in approximately 20 minutes.

Carbon ceramic Brembo brakes can stopping the 5,000-pound vehicle from 60 mph in less than 110 feet and a computer controlled suspension keeps things under control in curves.
