Detroit Auto Show Returning To January In 2025

Bundle up, new car fans.

The Detroit Auto Show organizers have announced that it is moving back to January in 2025 and that there will be no 2024 edition.

The show shifted to a September date in 2022 after being canceled the previous two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prior to the outbreak, it had already been rescheduled from January to June 2020 in an effort to revitalize the event, which had been in decline.

“The Detroit Auto Show is pleased to announce the iconic show will return to its roots with a January 2025 debut. Our primary goal is to create the most impactful event we can and after discussions with numerous constituencies, we believe a January date absolutely makes the most sense,” show organizers said in a statement.

“In a constantly changing global automotive landscape, this update reflects our efforts to continue to reimagine the Detroit Auto Show with keeping an eye on our traditional focus – getting people excited about cars.”

The show will open to the public on January 11, which is just after the end of CES. CES has stolen some of Detroit’s thunder by hosting major new car reveals, including this year’s unveiling of the Honda Saloon EV.

The show was once the premiere showcase for new car reveals, but many automakers started pulling out of the show in favor of their own debut events.

Stellantis this month announced that it has no plans to participate in any of the upcoming shows on a large scale.
