It’s back in the spotlight.
One of just 30 street legal versions of the Ford GT40 that were built was sold at the Mecum Auctions Kisssimmee, Fla., event on Friday night for $6,930,000.
The GT40 line of race cars won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times in a row from 1966 to 1969.
The Metallic Dark Blue 1966 car had been with the same owner for nearly three decades and out of the public eye.

The road versions of the GT40 have fully trimmed interiors and softer suspensions than the race cars.
This one has a 289 cubic-inch V8 and 5-speed manual transmission, with the stick located to the right of its right-side driver’s seat.
The winning bid for the car was $6,300,000, but fees increased the final sale price to $6,930,000.
