First And Final Chevrolet Corvette L88s Sold Together For $2.6 Million
That’s one way to start a car collection.
The first and last Chevrolet Corvette L88s were sold as a unique package together at the Mecum Auctions Kissimmee, Fla., event on Sunday for $2,585,000.
The 1967 Convertible and 1969 Coupe span two Corvette generations that were both offered with the L88 racing package.
Just 216 Corvettes were sold with the option across the three years it was available.

Along with competition grade brakes, suspensions and four-speed manual transmissions, the cars were equipped with a high output 427 cubic-inch V8 that was advertised at 430 hp, but really put out more than 500 hp. Chevy downplayed the official figure so it would stay something of a secret among racers.

Only 20 L88s were built in 1967, making them the most valuable on their own. One was sold for $3,850,000 in 2014 still holds the record for the highest price ever paid for a Corvette.

The market seems to have cooled since then, however, as the record car also crossed the block in Kissimmee on Saturday and received a high bid of $2,700,000, which was below its reserve price.
