NASCAR is opening up the gates to the L.A. Coliseum for free on Saturday, January 3, for fans who want to check out the Busch Light Clash practice, qualifying and heat races.

The move comes after it was announced earlier this week that Saturday’s televised racing would be held without an audience, even for people with tickets to the last chance qualifier and main race on Sunday.

The plan was met with major backlash and criticism in NASCAR circles and NASCAR senior vice president of racing development and strategy Ben Kennedy acknowledged as much in a video announcing the change.

“Hey race fans, we’ve heard you loud and clear,” Kennedy said.

No ticket to Sunday will be required for entry.

Along with the NASCAR Cup Series action, the NASCAR Mexico Series will compete in a 150-lap event on Sunday, with practice and qualifying on Saturday.

Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suarez, who started out in the Mexico Series, will be competing in both types of cars.

The exhibition Clash has in Los Angeles for the past three years in part to reach out to potential new fans in one of the country’s largest media markets, something free entry could go along way toward achieving.

Tickets are still available for the Sunday racing at www.NascarClash.com.
