Daniel Suarez Wins In Return To NASCAR Mexico Series

The master has become, well, the master.

Daniel Suarez, the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race, won the exhibition NASCAR Mexico Series La Battala En El Coliseo on Saturday night after failing to qualify for the Busch Light Clash.

Both races were moved from Sunday to Saturday due to a torrential rainstorm that was forecasted for Sunday.

Suarez was given an invitational entry into the non-points race, which is the first Mexico Series event held in the U.S. since 2015.

ELECTRIC NASCAR DEBUT DELAYED BY RAIN

Suarez started the race in sixth position, but steadily moved toward the front over the course of the 150-lap race on the temporary quarter-mile track built inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Suarez, who had 10 wins over five seasons in the Mexico Series before climbing the U.S. NASCAR ladder, took the lead late in the race and held off the series regulars to the checkered flag.
