GM Stops Deliveries and Recalls 323,000 Chevrolet and GMC Heavy Duty Pickups Due To Tailgate Trouble

(Chevrolet)

General Motors just issued a big recall for its big trucks.

More than 323,000 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups have a potentially problematic tailgate.

The electric release switch can get water into it an short circuit, causing the tailgate to open when the vehicles are in park.

An investigation uncovered 136 complaints about the tailgates opening while the vehicle was in motion, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it believes the drivers only noticed the issue when the vehicles were moving and that the control logic in the system won’t allow the switch to release when the vehicle is in gear.

One minor injury and three instances of minor property damage were reported, but the threat of loose cargo causing major injury or damage if a truck pulls away with the tailgate open is high.
