Mystery Driver Entering Daytona 500 With NY Racing
There are 42 cars signed up to try to qualify for the Daytona 500, but only 41 drivers.
The part-time NY Racing team has registered its No. 44 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the race, but has not named a driver yet.
Rumor spread among the NASCAR community this week that Greg Biffle, who drove for the team at The Great American Race in 2022, would be returning, after images of the NY Racing hauler with his name on it surfaced.
However, the 19-time Cup Series race winner Biffle flatly denied the possibility in a Facebook post:
“It has come to my attention that images of a hauler and a car with my name and signature on the side of it have been released. While I had hoped to be running in the 2024 Daytona 500 this year – that will not be happening. Due to unfulfilled contract obligations from 2022 for myself and the team, I have made a hard decision not to participate in any races, until the prior contract obligations have been fulfilled. I wish the team all the best and hopefully I will have the opportunity to race again and win this coveted race.”

Biffle was listed with a 36th place finish in 2022. His best result at the Daytona 500 was third with Roush Fenway Racing in 2012.
Neither Biffle nor NY Racing have elaborated on the situation.

The team has another day to secure a driver for the event as qualifying is scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Two of the 42 entries will be eliminated from the 40-car Daytona 500 field through qualifying and the Daytona Duels on Thursday.
