J.J. Yeley Enters Daytona 500 With NY Racing

The mystery has been solved.

NY Racing has confirmed that J.J. Yeley will drive the No. 44 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 during Daytona 500 qualifying on Wednesday night as the part-time open team attempts to make the race.

NY Racing had entered the car with the driver marked TBD.

Rumor earlier in the week was that Greg Biffle, who drove for it in the Daytona 500 in 2022, would return, but Biffle denied that on Tuesday, suggested he hadn’t been fully compensated for his last outing.

Yeley drove 25 Cup Series races for Rick Ware Racing last year, but not the Daytona 500. His last two shots to make The Great American Race came in 2021 and 2022, when he failed to qualify.

His best result was 10th in 2013 with Tommy Baldwin racing and he finished 19th at last year’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona.

There are six open cars and 36 chartered teams vying for one of the 40 Daytona 500 starting positions.

Kaz Grala, David Ragan, Anthony Alfredo, B.J. McLeod and Jimmie Johnson are the other drivers in open cars that will be battling with Yeley to avoid the two cuts through qualifying and the Daytona Duels on Thursday.
