Rare Chevrolet Camaro Garage 56 Edition Hits The Dyno — How Powerful Is It?
Hennessey Performance is performing an exorcism.
The Texas tuning house has gotten its hands on one of the 56 Chevrolet Camaro Garage 56 Edition cars that were built last year.
The limited run version of the Camaro ZL1 commemorated the modified Chevrolet Camaro NASCAR Cup Series car that Hendrick Motorsports ran in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of its Garage 56 experimental demonstration program.
The car features a graphics package based on the race car’s and some unique aerodynamic bits including the rear wing and front dive planes, but the engine is the ZL1’s stock 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that’s rated at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

The list price was $87,390, but the rare model was often listed by dealers for much more than amount and one has already been auctioned on the Bring A Trailer for $260,000.
WHAT WILL REPLACE THE CHEVROLET CAMARO IN NASCAR?
The one Hennessey has is getting the company’s Exorcist treatment, which swaps in a larger supercharger and includes high flow cylinder heads and catalytic converters, a custom induction system, upgraded valve springs, and other tweaks to increase its output to 1,000 hp.
The Exorcist can hit 60 mph in 2.1 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 9.47 seconds at 147 mph on its way to a top speed of 217 mph, according to Hennessey. the company announced last year that it would build 57 new Exorcists to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the original Camaro’s debut. The price for the work is $54,950, but Hennessey told American Car And Racing that this particular car belongs to it.
Hennessey has now put the Garage 56 car on the dynamometer to get baseline data and discovered exactly how much power and torque gets to the wheels.
The result was 579.09 hp and 594.78 lb-ft, so not exactly even Steven like the official 650 hp/lb-ft rating, but close.
THE SIXTH GENERATION CHEVROLET CAMARO COULD HAVE BEEN A PICKUP
The Camaro went out of production last December along with the Dodge Challenger, and Hennessey is cooking up an even more powerful version of the Mopar car.
It’s announced plans to swap the 900 hp Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s 6.2-liter V8 with a new twin-turbocharged engine that cranks out 1,700 hp.
THE CHEVROLET CAMARO IS DEAD, SO WHAT WILL REPLACE IT?
Hennessey will crate the original engine for owners in case they’d like to put it back in someday and the cost for the entire project is $200,000, not counting the car.
