First Rivian R2 Image Released Ahead Of March 7 Debut
We have the first R2 deets.
Rivian has released a short teaser video on social media that offers a peek at its upcoming R2 model.
The all-new vehicle will be smaller and cheaper than the brand’s current R1T pickup and R1S SUV.
“R2 captures the essence of our brand, but of course, to a smaller package and in a much lower price point,” Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said during the company’s most recent earnings call.

The image reveals that the R2 has the automaker’s signature lighting, with two oval headlight pods set in the middle of an illuminated bar.

The size and shape of the vehicle hasn’t been announced, but it is expected to be an SUV similar to the compact Tesla Model Y.
The video does feature an adult and child walking in front of the vehicle that offers some perspective on its size.
The platform will eventually be used for several different vehicles that will be sold around the world, however, and Rivian has secured trademarks for the names R2, R2S, RT2 and RTX.
The starting price has been estimated by industry observers at $40,000, but Rivian has not confirmed that.
It will be produced at a new factory the company is building Georgia and should qualify for the full $7,500 federal clean vehicle tax credit, but sales aren’t scheduled to begin until 2026.
Rivian last week introduced new entry level versions of the R1T and R1S that start at $71,700 and $76,700 that have estimated driving ranges of 270 miles per charge.
