Report Says Honda NASCAR Discussions Are ‘Heating Up’

The Sports Business Journal reports that NASCAR is currently in discussions with Honda about it entering the series as its fourth manufacturer.

NASCAR last had four automakers involved in the Cup Series during the 2012 season when Brad Keselowski won the championship with Dodge in its final year supporting Team Penske.

NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell said that negotiations to bring a new brand into the sport are “heating up,” but did not single out Honda, according to the outlet.

Honda is currently involved in IndyCar, where it is an engine supplier alongside Chevrolet, while its Acura brand competes in both the GTP and GTD classes in the IMSA sports car series.

Honda is also planning to return to Formula 1 as a full scale power unit supplier with Aston Martin in 2026 when the sport’s new rules package comes into effect.

Honda had recently been Red Bull’s supplier, but allowed Red Bull to take over the power units in 2022. Red Bull will be joining forces with Ford in 2026.

Honda currently sells the four-door Accord sedan in the U.S., which is equivalent to the Toyota Camry, as well as the smaller four-door Civic sedan and hatchback, but the rest of its lineup is comprised of SUVs a minivan and a pickup.
