1,400 Horsepower Electric Ford Supervan Sets Track Record At Mount Panorama

The all-electric Ford Supervan 4.2 demonstrator has set a new lap record on Australia’s Mount Panorama Circuit.

Driver Romain Dumas drove the 1,400 horsepower vehicle around the 3.861-mile street circuit on Sunday in 1:56.3247 to break a closed-car record set on February 17 by an unrestricted Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing car by .2807 sec.

The only car that has lapped the track faster was a McLaren Formula One car that Jenson Button drove to a 1:48.88 lap in 2011.

Mount Panorama is a temporary track that hosts the Bathurst 12 Hour and Bathurst 1000, two of the country’s most prestigious sports car racing events.

The Supervan 4.2 is a highly-modified version of the Ford E-Transit. It was originally built with a four-motor drivetrain rated at 1,972 hp, but is now equipped with two motors in the rear and one in the front.

It’s capable of accelerating to 60 mph in the two-second range. According to SpeedCafe it reached a peak speed of approximately 186 mph on Mount Panorama’s Conrod Straight.

Dumas previously drove the Supervan 4.2 to a second-place finish at the 2023 running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting an open class record of 8:47.682 over the 12.42-mile, 156-turn course.
