Secret Modified Ford F-150 Lightning To Race Up Pikes Peak

It’s the truck’s turn.

Ford entered the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 2023 with its Supervan electric demonstrator and driver Roman Dumas set an Open class record of 8:47.682 over the 12.42-mile, 156-turn race to the clouds.

The Supervan is a heavily modified version of the E-Transit van that features a 1,400 horsepower tri-motor electric. drivetrain and a competition body designed to produce serious aerodynamic downforce.

Dumas last week used the vehicle to an all-time lap recored at Australia’s Mount Panorama circuit and while there are no plans to retire it, Ford has something new in the works.

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently took American Cars And Racing for a spin it it at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.

The Ford Performance division behind the project has posted a teaser to social medial announcing that a a new vehicle will be entered in this year’s Pikes Peak event.

“This time we’re bringing the storm with an F-150 Lightning EV Demonstrator,” the post said. The accompanying image shows the truck under a sheet that leaves more questions that answers, as what appears to be a double bubble roof and a large wraparound rear wing similar to the Supervan’s are showing through the silhouette.

The post didn’t indicate when the vehicle will be revealed, but this year’s Pikes Peak event is scheduled for June 21-24.

It won’t be Ford Performance’s first F-150 Lightning build.

Ford Performance driver and collaborator Vaughn Gittin Jr. turned one into the Switchgear, which uses the stock 580 hp drivetrain, but features a custom suspension that gives it F-150 Raptor-like off-road capability and can be lowered to turn it into a street performance truck.
