381,199 Toyota Tacomas Recalled For Potential Rear Axle Issue
It’s pretty much a total recall.
Toyota is recalling 381,199 Tacoma pickups it built from May 02, 2022 through Nov. 21, 2023 that may have a defective rear axle assembly.
The Tacoma is assembled in Mexico, but is the best-selling midsize pickup in the United States.
A manufacturing issue at a supplier allowed splatter from welds to get into the retaining nut seating surface on some of the axles.
THE TACOMA HAS BEEN FULLY REDESIGNED FOR 2024 AND HERE’S OUR FIRST TEST DRIVE:
The nuts could come loose over time, allowing an axle shaft sub-assembly to separate from the axle housing. Toyota said drivers could experience vibration and noise before a full separation occurs, which could lead to a loss of stability and braking performance.

The automaker isn’t sure exactly how many vehicles could have the defect. Recalled trucks will be inspected and repaired and parts will be replaced, as necessary.
