It probably needs a lot of fuel!

A black 2025 Ford Mustang GTD prototype was spotted last week filling up at a Love’s gas station in Virginia.

Instagrammer Formulengarage posted pictures of the $300,000 supercar at the pump.

It’s the first time a black GTD has been seen in public, as the show car is finished in a color called Polymimetic Gray.

A Ford spokesman told American Cars And Racing that the driver is a test engineer, but did not identify him.

The GTD is set to be the most powerful street legal Ford ever made. Its carbon fiber body is based on the Ford GTD and GT3 cars that compete in the IMSA and WEC racing series and it features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 rated at an estimated 800 hp.

All of the power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual clutch transaxle.

The car is built for Ford by Multimatic and features the performance and racing car specialist’s unique spool valve dampers, which are incorporated into a suspension that can adjust its spring rate and its ride height by 1.58 inches between street and track modes.

Its 20-inch magnesium wheels are shod in 325 mm and 345 mm rubber, front and rear, and house a set of carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.

It’s also equipped with a rear wing that has a drag reduction system (DRS) which allows the driver to adjust how much downforce it creates, similar to what’s used on a Formula One car.

Work on the car is ongoing ahead of the start of deliveries late this year, but Multimatic’s vice president of special vehicle operations, Larry Holt, told American Cars And Racing that the car has a top speed of approximately 185 mph in its high downforce setting and 210 mph when the DRS is enabled.

Despite its high price, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the Mustang GTD is pretty much already sold out, although he hasn’t revealed how many cars will be built.

As for what the car was doing in Virginia, the gas station was located in the town of Bastian, which is on the route from Michigan to both Mooresville, N.C., where Multimatic’s racing headquarters is, and Virginia International Raceway, where automakers often go for development drives.
